DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Your Role:
As the Director of Marketing and Communications at Bespoke, you’ll be a leader among a dynamic team of experts dedicated to empowering social-profit organizations to thrive. This is a temporary position covering a maternity leave for 12 months, with the possibility of extension to 18 months.

Marketing and Brand Leadership

Supervise and direct the Marketing Specialist.

Develop an annual marketing and communications strategy that provides direction and structure for the team. Develop and be accountable for the corresponding budget.

Strengthen brand identity and positioning, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.

Lead development of marketing campaigns and collateral to support fundraising, partnerships, advocacy, and events.

Oversee production of key publications and materials (newsletters, presentations, digital content).

Oversee website, social media, and digital channels to grow audiences and engagement.

Ensuring an annual content calendar is developed

Driving the fulfillment of the strategy – ensuring that the systems, processes and resources for key tactics are in place.
Communications & Public Relations

Build and manage relationships with media, sector partners, and interest holders to amplify visibility.

Lead proactive storytelling, thought leadership campaigns, and rapid-response communications.

Ensure accessible, inclusive, and equity-informed communications that reflect Bespoke’s values.

Serve as spokesperson as needed and prepare executives for public engagements and events.

Anticipate reputational risks, manage issues proactively, and ensure campaigns reinforce Partners’ credibility as a trusted national voice.

Provide advice and counsel to our clients regarding communications and public relations.
Business Development:

Determine where Bespoke needs to have a presence to build profile, generate leads, and cultivate potential clients, including conferences, speaker series, networking events, etc.

Develop parameters for when it is advantageous for us to sponsor
(i.e. a conference, event, etc.).

Lever your professional network to grow our client pipeline.

Lever thought leadership content over diverse channels to engage prospective clients, capture their data, and convert them to qualified leads for business development.
Market Research and Writing

Plan, resource and implement any studies, surveys and reviews required to determine market factors for Bespoke’s growth and profitability

Manage contractors and freelancers to support the execution of marketing materials, ensuring quality, alignment with organizational goals, and timely delivery.

Writing collateral and cases for support for Bespoke clients on an as-needed basis.
Social Profit Project

Lead the planning and execution of key SPP events, with a focus on innovative approaches that exemplify the Power of P4—leveraging public, private, philanthropic, and social profit partnerships to drive greater social return on investment.

Oversee the creation of event materials, including agendas, promotional content, and post-event reports that highlight the role of P4 partnerships in achieving social impact.

Oversee event logistics planning, including audio-visual, and other vendors, ensuring events reflect the collaborative spirit of P4.

Implement feedback mechanisms to assess the success of events, identify opportunities for improvement, and refine strategies to better showcase P4-driven outcomes.

Develop and fulfill sponsorship packages
Working Conditions and Benefits:

Based in Calgary, this role offers the flexibility of remote work with visits to Bespoke’s office and event sites, providing a flexible and collaborative work environment that empowers you to thrive.

Competitive salary commensurate with experience, coupled with a comprehensive benefits package including health/dental, life insurance, and vacation time.

$95,000 to $115,000 or commensurate with the candidates’ skills and experience

What you Bring:
-
7–10 years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or brand leadership, ideally in the nonprofit, philanthropic, or social purpose sector.

Exceptional storytelling, writing, and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

Proven expertise in media relations, reputation management, and strategic communications, complemented by strong experience in brand building and digital engagement.

Track record of developing and executing integrated communications and marketing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and impact.

Experience in creative campaign development and execution is an asset.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage external vendors or agency partners effectively.

Collaborative, values-driven leadership style with the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments.

Knowledge of affordable housing, community development, or related social issues considered an asset.

Bilingualism (French/English) a strong asset.
