Description
The Adult Foundational Learning Instructor provides foundational reading and writing instruction to adult learners not enrolled in school. This is a part-time, hourly, contract position. The employment term will begin on October 1, 2025, and run through to the end of June 2026, with the possibility for an extension. The position is an average of 16 hours per week. The actual daily and hourly schedule will depend on program requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching reading and writing to adult learners 1:1 and in small groups
- Planning individualized lessons
- Monitoring and assessing learner progress on an ongoing basis
- Collecting, recording, and reporting all necessary information related to learners on time
- Participating in staff meetings
- Participating in professional development as appropriate to the position
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent with experience
- Experience working with adult foundational learners
- Knowledge of adult foundational learner characteristics and adult learning principles
Skills
- Ability to implement effective instructional practices, strategies, and assessment
- Initiative for working independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to manage time and workload, and to work collaboratively with others
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Energy, enthusiasm, and motivation for continuous professional development
