About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is responsible for all financial, administrative, and human resource activities. This position is also responsible for ensuring that all financial operations follow current governmental rules and regulations as well as internal financial policies.

The Director of Finance and Human Resources is part of the Leadership Team and uses a clear understanding of the Vision and Mission and works with others to support strategic planning and implementation, organizational needs, and decision-making processes.

What You'll Do:
Budget and Financial Management

  • Perform all aspects of full cycle accounting for not for profit (deferral method) using Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)
  • Create and receive approval for annual society budget
  • Work with funders by developing budgets, ensuring compliance and fulfill reporting requirements
  • Update agency staff on budget needs and provide updates on spending. 
  • Communicate with leadership team and board of directors the Society’s financial health
  • Oversee annual audits, communicate and provide all information to the auditor

Payroll and Benefits Administration

  • Preparation and processing of organization’s semi-monthly payroll and benefits
  • Assist in hiring new employees by determining salary range, prepare employment offer, calculate employee overall compensation
  • Coordinate and assist with the onboarding and orientation of new employees

Human Resources

  • Collaborate with Executive Director on annual salary increases, employee promotions, salary band changes
  • Work with Executive Director and HR consultant on ad hoc human resource issues

Board of Directors Support

  • Update policy manuals with board approval
  • Attend committee meetings and support committees in achieving their terms of reference and strategic plans

Requirements:

  • Post secondary education in Business, Finance, Accounting, HR or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial leadership role, preferably within the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of Sage 50 accounting software and SharePoint
  • Strong ethics and ability to manage confidential data.

Position Details:

  • Full time, permanent position
  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Location: Hybrid – this role can be filled primarily remotely with occasional office meetings
