Overview:
The Airdrie Food Bank is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the successful leadership and management of the Airdrie Food Bank.
Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct oversight to the financial operations of the organization.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government, partners, funders, members, and key stakeholders.
  • Provide advice and support to the Board of Directors through timely reporting.
  • Manage and motivate the staff
  • Ensure inquiries from local and regional media are handled appropriately.
  • Support programs and projects in development, operations, and capacity-building.
  • Provide leadership in fundraising activities, including corporate, individual, and foundation giving, and oversee the development of key fundraising activities and programs, including annual signature events.
  • Create and implement the agency business plan using objectives and priorities provided by the Board.

Financial Planning and Management:

  • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that ensure AFB is in compliance with Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations reporting
  • Work with staff, the Board, and the Treasurer to prepare an annual budget.
  • Secure adequate funding for the operation of the Food Bank.
  • Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate.
  • Prepare grant applications and grant reporting.

 

  • Approve expenditures within the authority delegated by the Board.
  • Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor monthly cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislation covering taxation, including issuing tax receipts and CRA reporting.
  • Oversee financial operations by reviewing bank statements, ongoing bill payments, and payroll.

Community Relations/Advocacy:

  • Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the organization’s work.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations.
  • Provide information to membership and media on events and operations of the Food Bank and its programs.

Collaboration:

  • Participate with the Board of Directors in developing and carrying out the vision and strategic plan of the Food Bank.
  • Inform the Board of Directors of issues affecting the Food Bank.
  • Serve as the main spokesperson and represent the Food Bank at community events.
  • Conduct official correspondence on behalf of the Board as directed.

Operational Planning and Management:

  • Develop and implement policy and procedures plans for the Food Bank.
  • Ensure the operation of the Food Bank meets the expectations of clients, funders, and volunteers.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Food Bank, including the management of two locations and the warehouse, ensuring efficient warehouse operations to support the distribution of food and resources.
  • Maintain and adhere to the Food Banks Canada Standards.

Human Resources Planning and Management:

  • Maintain adequate staffing for proper program delivery and oversee the development and implementation of human resources policies and procedures.
  • Oversee a team of managers to ensure effective execution of the Food Bank's programs and services.
  • Establish a positive, healthy, and safe work environment.
  • Ensure staff orientation and appropriate training, as well as ongoing performance evaluations.
  • Oversee volunteer management.

Program Planning, Management, and Development:
 

  • Oversee the creation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Food Bank’s programs and services.
  • Ensure programs and services contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the Board’s priorities.
  • Manage day-to-day delivery of programs and services, and oversee planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects.
  • Oversee the development of key fundraising activities and programs, including annual signature events.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and evaluate risks to the Food Bank’s people, property, finances, goodwill, and image, and implement measures to control risks.
  • ensure adequate policies and procedures to minimize the risk of fraud/theft
  • Ensure the Board of Directors and the organization carry appropriate and adequate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure the Board and staff understand the terms, conditions, and limitations of the insurance coverage.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety protocols.

  • Experience in fundraising and grant writing.

  • Knowledge of human resources management and volunteer management.
