Position Summary:
Miskanawah is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions and evidence-based practices in human services, to support vulnerable children, youth and families.
The Family Specialist provides services to caregivers and their families to improve overall family communication and functioning. The Family Specialist will have expertise in areas such as, but limited to: domestic violence, grief and loss, Circle of Security, Kinship, Family Group Conferencing, and possess strong knowledge of community resources.
Responsibilities:
- Create and develop parenting and child programing for the Tawaw East and West Family Resource Network.
- Complete data entry for new and existing families.
- This position may also at times included evenings and weekends
Skills and experiences:
- Degree or diploma in the human services field – equivalencies will be considered
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of and a desire to practice within the scope of Indigenous teachings
- Knowledge of child development, and parent-child relationships
- Knowledge of the dynamics of child abuse and neglect
- Substantial experience in supporting families with complex needs
- Working knowledge community services and resources for families
- Ability to assess family needs and develop family strategies
- Understanding or experience with clinical intervention strategies
- Ability to facilitate groups
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Ability to model and cultivate effective communication skills, problem solving, and family advocacy
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills
