The Opportunity 
We are looking for a Major Gifts Officer to support our Fund Development team (Major & Principal Gifts). Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, the Major Gifts Officer plans a key role, building effective relationships with current and prospective major gifts donors, corporate donors, and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals. 
As a part of achieving the Foundation's strategic objectives, this role is responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive  mid-level donor program, targeting the annual giving range of $10,000-$50,000 or more, with a goal of strengthening the pipeline of current and potential major gift level donors through deeper engagement at this giving level. 
Furthermore, the Major Gifts Officer will actively engage with donors and prospects through their preferred communication channel, with an emphasis on face-to-face interaction when possible, spending a significant amount of time in direct interaction with donors. The role will be involved in developing and implementing tailored strategies for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship with a focus on increased revenue (emphasis on multi-year pledge options), annual gift upgrades and ultimately growing and deepening the donor relationship with the Foundation.

Key Responsibilities
The Major Gifts Officer will be accountable for the following:

  • Develop and execute strategies and tactics to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit (preferably face to face), and steward mid-level gifts ($10,000-$50,000) from individuals, foundations, and small/medium businesses. This includes initiating contact with potential donors with a goal of soliciting and closing gifts within an appropriate timeframe.
  • Actively manage a diverse portfolio of 100-125 major gift donors/prospects and develop strategic fundraising tactics to secure ongoing annual support, cultivate future major gifts, and identify planned giving potential and interest.
  • Understand the needs, passions, and interests of major donors and prospects while being knowledgeable of legislation impacting charitable giving, personal assets, and estates.
  • Work with the Pipeline & Analytics team to leverage data analysis, identifying high-potential prospects within portfolio and when appropriate, transitioning them to a higher Major or Principal Gift Level ($50,000+).
  • Completion of annual stewardship and recognition plans.
  • Develop proficiency in the Grant Management System in order to thoroughly understand the various ACHF funding priorities. Strong working knowledge and understanding of the Foundation and our funding priorities will ensure effective articulation of the various cases for support as a critical component to matching donor interests and serving as a well-informed ambassador at donor meetings, speaking engagements, events, presentations, and hospital tours.
  • Act as the donor and broker point of contact for gifts of shares.
  • Organize and host donor meetings and hospital tours, along with strategic invites to ACHF cultivation events, and corporate volunteer engagement, all aimed at deepening relationships and the impact of giving.
  • Work closely with other members of the development team and organizational leadership to develop broader fundraising strategies (i.e. multi-generational engagement, sponsorship) and coordinate donor engagement efforts
  • Assist with fundraising events that engage major gift prospects and donors.
  • Update and maintain accurate and timely records of donor interactions and proposals in the relationship management system (currently Raiser’s Edge).
  • Track and report on fundraising progress and discovery pipeline activity using Power BI.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • You have a post-secondary degree in a relevant field coupled with a minimum of two years of fund development experience in annual giving, leadership giving, or a related area; suitable combinations of education and experience will be considered. Understanding of fundraising principles is required; coursework or accreditations related to fundraising as well as experience in healthcare philanthropy would be considered assets.
  • You have a proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts of $10,000+, maintaining and building new and long-term relationships with prospects, donors and volunteers, while effectively managing a diverse account portfolio.
  • As a resourceful and committed team player, you use your superior problem-solving skills to resolve issues in a dynamic environment. You are empathetic, responsive, dependable, adaptable, and able to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Your exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail along are complemented by excellent analytical skills and the ability to extract and summarize relevant information. You work both independently and collaboratively to prioritize, plan and execute on deliverables, making the best use of time and resources.
  • With persuasive and professional writing, presentation, and communication skills, you effectively engage with internal and external stakeholders to develop and bolster relationships. You maintain a positive, polished, and professional image, remaining diplomatic and tactful at all times, while understanding the confidentiality required to manage a variety of issues and stakeholders. Your passion for the cause will support you as you present, influence, and motivate others to support the Foundation. 
  • You have demonstrated proficiency in SharePoint and the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. This is coupled with in-depth knowledge of donor data systems. Ideally, you have working knowledge of Raiser's Edge, Classy, and/or Power BI. 
  • As we have implemented a hybrid work arrangement, you must have the ability to work both in office and virtually, being well-versed in the tools and technology to be effective in both. From time-to-time, work in evenings and on weekends is required and a flexible schedule is needed to meet the shifting needs of the organization.
