We believe in a healthy and diverse workplace, and we are looking for a compassionate and skilled Marketing Communications Specialist to join our team.

Overview Of The Role
The Marketing Communications Specialist will be a part of a small hard-working team whose goal is to advance the organizations mission by increasing awareness, developing greater relationships with our community, and increasing participation and support for our programs and fundraising activities. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and executing sound marketing and communication strategies within a not-for-profit environment utilizing all available resources, tools and platforms

This position is primarily based at the Children’s Cottage Administrative office, located at our Child & Family Centre, 1804 Home Road NW. The position is 40 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (including a 30-minute paid lunch break) but with availability to work outside of normal hours, including evenings and weekends when required. The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 per year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational and professional requirements

  • Degree in marketing/communications (or related field) or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional marketing communication experience required, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to successfully prioritize and manage numerous projects.
  • A creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Graphic design experience is a plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress or comparable products.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Detail oriented, with a positive and energetic attitude.
  • Self-motivated and ambitious to learn new tools, media platforms and industry trends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create an annual internal and external marketing and communication plan to assist the organization in meeting its overall program and fundraising goals
  • Collaborate with team members across all departments to create and edit dynamic, engaging content for Cottage newsletters, marketing and communications materials.
  • Identify and execute digital opportunities to inspire our community
  • Develop and maintain strong internal relationships to seek out story ideas.
  • Maintain and coordinate content changes or updates required for the Cottage website.
  • Develop and manage content for all Cottage social media platforms and stay current on trends and best practices
  • Manage the Cottage digital assets including categorizing and archiving, photos and marketing materials.
  • Maintain brand constituency across all platforms and with external partners
  • Provide monthly analysis and reporting of marketing and communication activities and projects.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the annual fundraising plan.
  • Serve as point of contact and build strong relationship with local media.
  • Create all media relations related collateral and track coverage
  • Work with fundraising staff to curate event communications and marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with the fundraising team to create and edit appeal and campaign letters.

  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
