Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) is seeking a Well-Being Navigator and is accepting applications from qualified job seekers!This position guides and assists newly arrived refugees who face barriers in independently accessing and utilizing health services. This role seeks to empower refugees to become knowledgeable and self-sufficient in managing their needs, ultimately ensuring their successful integration and improved overall health outcomes.

Description

Individuals in this role will apply Gender-Based Analysis (GBA) Plus training to identify and understand the specific barriers clients may face due to intersecting identity factors. With this approach, they will ensure that the needs of all clients (including newcomer women, high-needs refugees, newcomers with disabilities, and LGBTQI+ newcomers) are met through targeted and responsive services and supports.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate individual and family intakes and collaboratively assess client needs relating to mental health support
  • Provide client orientations and complete intakes with newcomer clients at CCIS to provide early intervention in health supports
  • Provide ongoing follow-up and support clients while they access health systems and resources. Offer information on accessing local and need-specific healthcare providers, including family doctors and wellness resources.
  • Coordinate with health providers, interpreters, and community organizations to ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate refugee mental health services
  • Provide ongoing communication, referrals, assessment and interventions
  • Liaise with health professionals to support the needs of shared clients
  • Coordinate and participate in case conferences, volunteer matching and orientation as needed
  • Work with community partners, settlement coordinators and Community Connections facilitators to support refugees and their families
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team within CCIS
  • Practice personal self-care and support the needs of team members
  • Complete evaluation and reporting of program activities that fit all funder outcomes and indicators as outlined by the Program Manager
  • Distribute and compile client satisfaction surveys and feedback forms
  • Build and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, community organizations, and cultural groups.
  • Co-Maintain documentation, digital/paper client files and client data entry into iCARE and/or any other database.
  • Collect and compile statistics and submit monthly and periodic narrative reports.

  • Degree or equivalent in social work, social sciences or related fields
  • Knowledge of and experience with cultural diversity
  • Creativity and good organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to plan, implement activities and evaluate success
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and with all stakeholders
  • Ability to deal positively with challenges
  • Knowledge of Calgary community
  • Volunteer management training and experience are an asset
  • A second language is an asset.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Must have a valid Criminal Record Check report under Vulnerable Sector Search
