The Calgary Region Immigrant Employment Council (CRIEC), established in 2010, is a dynamic non-profit organization based in Calgary, Alberta. CRIEC is dedicated to advancing pathways and building positive relationships between Calgary employers and internationally trained professionals. By bridging these connections, we promote hiring and retention of diverse international talent, in the local workforce and contribute to Calgary’s economic force.

This position also oversees information management and technology, organizational management, and legal services to ensure the organization's strategic vision and goals are met. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in non-profit financial management, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to transparency and accountability.

Key Responsibilities: 

Leadership and Collaboration   

  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other senior leaders to align financial management with organizational goals. 

  • Consults with cross-functional team to ensure alignment with CRIEC’s existing programs, mission, and vision.   

  • Foster a collaborative and transparent financial culture within the organization. 

  • Empowers and supports team with managing budgets, developing work plans, and creating meaningful key performance indicators (KPIs).  

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuously learn and grow professionally and within the organization.  

Financial Strategy and Planning: 

  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization’s goals. 

  • Provide financial forecasts, budgeting, and long-term financial planning. 

  • Advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and policy matters. 

Financial Management: 

  • Oversee all financial operations including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and compliance. 

  • Manage the organization’s financial software systems and ensure accurate financial records. 

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including non-profit regulations and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements. 

Financial Reporting: 

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and external stakeholders. 

  • Coordinate the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors, and ensure timely and accurate completion of the audit. 

  • Present financial reports to the Board of Directors and relevant committees. 

Risk Management: 

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organization. 

  • Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures. 

  • Ensure the protection of the organization’s assets and financial integrity. 

  • Review, update, and implement finance-related strategies and policies. 

Fund Management: 

  • Work closely with the Executive Director and the Director of Programs in the development of funding applications  

  • Support the Executive Director in sourcing out funding opportunities  

  • Oversee the management of funds, including investments, grants, and donations. 

  • Ensure proper allocation and utilization of funds in line with donor restrictions and organizational objectives. 

  • Monitor and report on grant expenditures and financial performance of funded projects. 

Information Management and Technology 

  • Assess the effectiveness of existing platforms and software; explore more effective solutions. 

  • Lead the development of processes to support a secure and safe environment. 

Human Resources   

  • Leads and supports hiring and onboarding of new team members Leads and promotes an engaging, collaborative, and healthy work environment. 

  • Ensures CRIEC meets or exceeds all employment and health and safety standards. 

  • Reviews and assesses benefits options to maximize value for CRIEC and staff members. 

  • Reviews, updates, and implements HR related strategy and policies 

Organizational Management 

  • Lead the implementation of strategic and operational plans, develop and update operational policies and processes, and collaborate with external vendors and stakeholders. 

  • Coordinate contractor activities, including IT, Communications, Research, and Bookkeeping. 

Qualifications  

  • Legally able to work in Canada.  

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA designation is required. 

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in the non-profit sector. 

  • Strong knowledge of immigrant talent integration challenges and best practices within the Canadian context  

  • Ability to synthesize information, capture key insights, and present findings in a clear and concise manner.   

  • Strong knowledge of non-profit financial management, including fund accounting, grant management, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced MS Excel skills. 

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, board members, funders, and external partners.
