PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Supervisor for the Shelter Services leads a team that supports individuals and families who reside in a second stage women’s housing. This position supervises the staff of the children, families, and adult programs. This position works in partnership with the Director of Programs to plan, implement and provide leadership throughout all programming and services for the shelter. This role reports to the Director of Programs and is an active collaborator.
WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR…
- Coach, mentor, supervise and build capacity with direct reports through monthly formal individual supervisions and group related learning opportunities.
- Attend regular individual and program specific supervisions with the Director of Programs and larger leadership driven meetings.
- Lead and facilitate both planned and impromptu case consultations with the Shelter team, with a lens for risk management and best/promising practice within a Shelter setting.
- Attend ongoing professional development focused on information relating to children/families, domestic violence best/promising practice when working with individuals with complex trauma and your own leadership growth edge.
- Maintain Professional Code of Conduct and Professional Ethics.
- Provide on call/after hours and weekend support for the Shelter as a key member in the rotation of leadership team.
- Track, maintain and submit accurate timesheet and request for time off in the HR Systems as per pay processing schedule.
- Collaboratively work with the Director of Programs, Supervisor, Childcare Programs to ensure clients experience of service across the agency is coordinated, supportive and streamlined where possible.
- Identify, coordinate, and support the Shelter team through critical thinking, problem solving and flexible/innovative responses to client circumstances.
- Lead the Shelter team to identify, explore and implement appropriate supports for parents, individuals and children staying in residence.
- In partnership with Operations Manager and the Shelter team with client intakes and discharges to meet landlord, tenant requirements and their intersection with client services.
- Ensure an exceptional standard of practice are maintained, embracing ACSW Standards of practice and Code of Ethics are seen and felt in each team members interactions and support of clients.
- Monitor and support the Shelter team to ensure client files are up to date, within necessary timelines and capturing the exceptional work the teams do with accuracy and integrity.
- With support from HR, maintain up-to-date employee files including but not limited to supervision requirements, performance reviews and goals, security checks and all required trainings.
- In partnership with the leadership team and occupational health and safety committee, ensure the implementation and monitoring of all health and safety regulations are maintained.
- Champion the recruitment, onboarding, and evaluation of new staff members to the Shelter services team.
- Support a strong team environment by promoting open communication and positive working relationships with staff.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners and programs that can best support our clients needs.
- Facilitate and collaborate with other department leads to ensure the Connection Centre is effectively utilized and well maintained.
- Monitor client files for ethical, best practice standards that meets agency standards of exceptional client care. This includes monitoring and supporting staff on use of intervention and support tools, evaluation tool completion, evaluating for program impact and making recommendations for shifts to program services to best meet client evolving needs.
- Keep staff files up to date, ensuring supervision notes, trainings and staff evaluation documents are completed in a timely manner that leans into staff growth edges and drive toward ongoing professional development.
- Record and remit all program expenses.
- Monitor and maintain the condition of program supplies.
- Regularly assess and evaluate the program using the established Evaluation Framework.
- Oversite of all programs critical Incidents for adequate risk assessment, program response and themes, identifying areas of improvement and recommending plans for improvement.
- Support all evaluation and data collection for Shelter Services through regular audits. Consult with Data Analyst on this work.
- Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED…
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, or related field required.
- Brain Story Certification an asset upon hire, mandatory within probationary period.
- 3 + years of experience supervising, coaching, and developing employees.
- Proven skills to work with vulnerable population are required.
- Experience with crisis management and decision making required.
- Experience working with clients with complex needs such as substance use/misuse and mental wellness an asset.
- Comprehensive knowledge of child development, Early Learning and Childcare Act and Regulation and Health regulations is an asset.
- Knowledge of the impact of domestic violence, family systems and trauma informed practice as it relates to individuals, families, and children.
- Knowledge of community resources, programs, systems, and processes available to support individuals, families, and children.
- Unwavering ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries for clients and staff.
- Exceptional oral and written communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- NVCI and Suicide Intervention certification.

MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS…
- Affinity for working with vulnerable populations, families and children.
- Clear Police Security Check with vulnerable sector search maintained.
- Clear Child Intervention Check maintained.
- First Aid & CPR.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to ensure adequate staff support.
- Standing, bending, crouching, and able to lift up to 50lb.
- This role is not eligible for Hybrid Remote work.
