The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crisis. As the city’s main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank, we have the capacity to serve families, individuals, and organizations to fight hunger.
We are currently recruiting a community-minded, team-oriented individual to join our Community Engagement team as a Community Engagement Assistant Summer Student. This position will provide vital support to the Community Engagement team be performing administrative tasks, data management, and playing a support role during community events. This role is ideal for a motivated individual passionate about community service and interested in gaining hands-on experience in non-profit operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist with data-entry and data-transformation projects using Salesforce.
- Attend and support the coordination, facilitation, and delivery of community events on behalf of the Calgary Food Bank.
- Contribute to the development of external communication materials, including drafting copy and assisting with basic design tasks.
Key Tasks:
- Set up, tear down, and manage materials for community events.
- Accurately enter contact and gift information in the CRM.
- Process incoming donations, including handling credit card transactions over the phone, while maintaining a high standard of donor service.
- Perform general administrative duties as needed to support the Community Engagement and Development teams.
Decision Making and Leadership Capabilities:
- Confidently handle donor inquiries, ensuring positive and supportive interactions at all times.
- Work independently while also collaborating effectively with team members when the situation calls for it.
Education and Experience Required:
- Previous experience with data entry and data management at a beginner or intermediate level.
- Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service in a professional environment.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Strong professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365; experience with CRM platforms such as Salesforce is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel within Calgary for community events as required.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
This is a temporary full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week. Working conditions are normal for an office environment and may require occasional visits to the warehouse. Candidate must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time, lift and carry items and do some walking in preparation for events. The candidate must have a vehicle to provide support at events. The qualified candidate must be available to work outside of normal business hours including weekends on occasion.

- Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years at the start of employment.
