The Opportunity: Community Relations Specialist
Community Links is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Community Relations Specialist to lead and support our fund development and community relations efforts. This role is responsible for cultivating and maintaining donor relationships, securing diverse funding streams, and enhancing the visibility and impact of Community Links’ programs and services.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in developing partnerships, coordinating fundraising events – most notably the signature KW2T (Know Where to Turn) Run to End Family Violence – and preparing compelling proposals and communications to support the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to implement fund development strategies aligned with the organization’s long-term goals.
  • Plan and lead fundraising events and awareness campaigns.
  • Provide regular progress reports to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the organization in public settings.

Fund Development

  • Identify and secure funding from individuals, corporations, community donors, grants, and sponsorships.
  • Develop and deliver proposals, presentations, reports, and communication materials.
  • Research and prepare grant applications.
  • Maintain and utilize donor databases and reporting tools.
  • Ensure proper recognition and stewardship of donors.

Community Relations

  • Build and secure funding from individuals, corporations, community donors, grants and sponsorships.
  • Represent Community Links at events and initiatives to enhance visibility.
  • Connect community needs with resources and referrals.

Program & Financial Management

  • Support strategic planning and implementation of fund development strategies.
  • Assist in budget preparation and ensure alignment of fundraising goals with program needs.
  • Track program outcomes and funding performance.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, contracts, and organizational policies.

Organizational Support

  • Adhere to and promote agency values and policies.
  • Participate in staff orientation, training, and meetings.
  • Support a flexible, team-based, and solution-focused workplace environment.
  • Help identify risks and ensure ethical practices and safety protocols are followed.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fundraising or community relations, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Proven track record of achieving fundraising goals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • High energy, self-motivated, and enthusiastic.
  • Passion for community building and social impact.

Additional Requirements:

  • Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Children Services Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel in varying weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
  • Comfort working with high-risk populations, including those with mental health and substance use challenges.
