What We Do:
 

Created in 1994 by a passionate group of parents who wanted to see their children thrive, Pacekids Programs has impacted the lives of thousands of children and families through an Alberta Education licensed Early Childhood Services (ECS) program and a variety of Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) funded in-home and in-community programs. Since its creation, Pacekids has remained focused on the family unit and continuously emphasizes the importance of meeting a child and family where they are at.

Purpose of Position: 

The Certified Teacher is responsible for the delivery of direct classroom programming to their designated classrooms. The Certified Teacher oversees the educational programming and Individual Program Plan. The Certified Teacher works as part of an interdisciplinary team with other teachers, preschool teachers, aides and therapists. The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor of Education from an accredited institution and hold or be eligible to hold an Alberta Teaching Certificate.  

Overview of Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Plan, prepare and implement a play-based learning program that meets the diverse learning needs of all children.
  • Work within relevant frameworks such as Alberta Curriculum, The Flight Framework, and the Teacher Quality Standard.
  • Develop and implement Individual Program plans for all children.
  • Adapt and modify learning outcomes, while collaborating with other professionals to support children’s achievement of IPP goals.
  • Communicate with parents and families about their child’s development and learning, fostering a partnership in supporting the child’s IPP goals. 
  • Complete all required reports and documents such as IPPs, Report Cards, Transition Forms, and agency referrals.
  • Facilitate weekly team planning meetings.
  • Provide a safe and supportive environment that allows children to feel secure, comfortable and safe.
  • Assist with self-help skills where needed, including toileting and diapering children.
  • Holds first aid certification.

The ideal candidate demonstrates the following: 

  • A team player with high energy, flexibility, creativity, and passion for early childhood education.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding position, including lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Able to work in a fast paced and physically demanding position, while demonstrating a strong work ethic.
  • Education and training/certification in the field of Inclusive and/or Special Education.
  • Effectiveness teaching a broad variety of learners including but not limited to those on the ASD, GDD, Down syndrome, and other diagnoses.
  • A track record of effective communication with colleagues, parents and supervisors.
  • An understanding of the fundamentals and procedures of effective behavioural strategies including an awareness of evidence-based approaches.
  • Celebrate neurodiversity and create a culture of acceptance and inclusion within the classroom.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and adapt to changing environments.
  • Experience in providing a play-based learning program and understands the significance of learning through play.
