What We Do:
 

Created in 1994 by a passionate group of parents who wanted to see their children thrive, Pacekids Programs has impacted the lives of thousands of children and families through an Alberta Education licensed Early Childhood Services (ECS) program and a variety of Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) funded in-home and in-community programs. Since its creation, Pacekids has remained focused on the family unit and continuously emphasizes the importance of meeting a child and family where they are at.

Occupational Therapist

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

  • Development and coaching of occupational therapy programming– considering a classroom, home, and/or community setting (where applicable)
  • Coach and consult with families and provide appropriate strategies and recommendations for a child’s programming to support their development and/or independence in activities of daily living (such as dressing, feeding, toileting, grooming, managing fine motor tasks etc.), sensory needs and anything else related to the scope of occupational therapy
  • Conduct screenings and/or assessments (formal and/or informal) of preschool and school-aged children – ensuring assessment data is provided for program-specific needs
  • Develop, monitor, consult, and update Individual Program Plan (IPP)/Service Provider Program Plan (SPPP)/Individualized Service Plan (ISP) goals, ensuring they are carried out appropriately and effectively by the members of a child’s team
  • Collaborate with families, interdisciplinary team members, teachers and aides to target goals in a variety of settings, including participation in meetings with the team and/or families
  • Provide transition and/or summary reports, and maintain documentation to meet both the standards of the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists and Pacekids’ standards
  • Ensure meeting of all program-specific deadlines for documentation, hour tracking, and billing, as applicable
  • Provide education and training to Pacekids’ staff
  • Commit to the values outlined by Pacekids – working to create and maintain a positive and respectful workplace culture

What You Bring 

  • Completion of a master’s degree in occupational therapy, or equivalent
  • Registered member, in good standing, with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)
  • Adheres to the code of ethics of the occupational therapy profession and maintaining standards of practice
  • Current professional liability insurance, to be updated annually
  • Current Alberta driver’s license and must have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Clearance from a Criminal Record check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, and Child Welfare Intervention check, current within the last 6 months
  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal
  • Experience working with preschool and school-aged children
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, families and staff
  • Flexibility is essential given the variety of children’s abilities, needs and conditions
