The Client Service & Volunteer Coordinator (CSVC) is part of CLG’s clinic team, forming a vital link between clients, CLG staff, and volunteers. The CSVC is often the first point of contact for many diverse Albertans emailing, calling, and walking in to the CLG office, helping them understand our services so they can decide if CLG is the right resource for them.

Description

The CSVC is part of the CLG clinic team, responsible for the delivery of CLG’s flagship service – the Volunteer Lawyer Clinic (VLC). The VLC is Alberta’s first pro bono legal service and has provided generations of Albertans with knowledge and support to defend their rights. CLG’s specialized staff programs focus on assisting vulnerable Albertans with specific legal issues. The CVSC maintains close and regular communication with CLG’s legal services specialists and staff lawyer teams to connect individuals with the service that best meets their needs.   All members of the Volunteer Lawyer Clinic team are skilled in system navigation and can handle sensitive topics with professionalism, compassion, and cultural awareness.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Work with Volunteer Lawyer Clinic team members to deliver trauma-informed, holistic legal services and support to diverse individuals. CSVC responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 

  • Assist the Volunteer Manager with developing and maintaining CLG’s volunteer culture. This includes engaging with individual volunteers, law firms, and community partners to involve volunteers effectively and efficiently in CLG’s services and governance
  • Assist with recruitment, training, coordination and recognition of volunteers
  • Organize legal advice clinics and workshops and provide administrative support to the clinic
  • Provide and coordinate front desk/reception coverage with Volunteer Manager, clinic team members, and CLG staff & volunteers
  • Collaborate closely with clinic team members in responding to in-person and phone/email requests from diverse Albertans for legal & other help. Identify legal and related issues, facilitate access to relevant CLG services, and provide referrals to external services as needed
  • Collaborate with clinic team members to develop and maintain accessible resources for volunteers and clients

THE CANDIDATE
The preferred candidate possesses the following skills, experience and qualifications:
 

  • Experience in volunteer coordination or management, preferably with certification or training/education
  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Human Services, Social Work, Justice or a related discipline
  • 1+ years’ related work experience working with diverse populations. Ability to handle sensitive topics with professionalism, compassion and cultural awareness, including a demonstrated commitment to Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
  • Demonstrated interest in access to justice and working knowledge of legal and community resources.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of trauma-informed care practices and de-escalation.
  • Strong organizational & administrative skills, proficiency with technology, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently and with team members.    

WHAT WE OFFER

Salary range is $50,000-$59,000 per annum and will be commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is also provided.
