Luna Child and Youth Advocacy Centre (LUNA) is a centre of excellence in child abuse intervention and prevention. Luna’s multi-disciplinary team of experts from health, children’s services, law enforcement, justice and victim services work together from one location to help young people and their families throughout the disclosure, investigation, and judicial process, and along all phases of their healing journey. Reportiong to the Manager of Programs and Victim Services, Victim Service Coordinators support children, youth, and families across their journey with LUNA, from initial contact and preparation for the forensic interview through the investigative, legal, and court processes.  The role focuses on building supportive relationships, identifying and responding to changing needs, providing Victims of Crime Protocol information and practical support, and connecting families with appropriate resources with LUNA's multidisciplinary team, partner agencies, and community organizations. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Family Intake & Support 

  • Welcome children, youth, and families to the Centre and help them feel safe and supported. 

  • Assess immediate needs and connect families to appropriate resources and supports. 

  • Provide information about the Victim’s Bill of Rights, available victim benefits, specialized victim supports, and community programs, and other relevant services. 

  • Develop support plans with families and coordinate referrals. 

Ongoing Case Support  

  • Manage assigned files and provide consistent support throughout the family’s involvement with LUNA. 

  • Build positive, supportive relationships with children, youth, and caregivers. 

  • Coordinate services with LUNA programs, internal partners, and external community resources. 

  • Provide information, referrals, advocacy, and practical assistance. 

  • Conduct follow-up calls, appointments, and surveys. 

  • Maintain accurate and confidential information. 

  • Complete administrative tasks, documentation, scheduling, and data entry. 

Court Support & Justice System Navigation 

  • Help children, youth, and families understand the court process and understand available victim and court supports available to them. 

  • Prepare children and youth for court using age-appropriate strategies. 

  • Provide court updates and information to families.  

  • Provide emotional and practical support before, during, and after court proceedings. 

  • Support crown meetings, remote testimony and other specialized court processes. 

  • Work closely with legal partners, including Crown prosecutors, police, and RCMP. 

Team Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Practice 

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners and community agencies. 

  • Participate in team meetings, case consultations, supervision, and training. 

  • Participate in the monthly on-call rotation. 

  • Build strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and partner organizations. 

  • Support the Victim Services Advocate volunteer program by assisting with volunteer coordination, providing guidance, and contributing to training and development initiatives. 

  • Support LUNA initiatives that strengthen services for children and families. 

*Victim Services Coordinators do not provide counselling, legal advice, investigation, or medical intervention. 

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • A degree within Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related (equivalencies will be considered) Registration with the appropriate professional body; 

  • 3+ years of direct experience in Victim Services, frontline Social Work-related roles, or court support related experience; 

  • Experience supporting individuals experiencing trauma, crisis, or other challenging situations. 

  • Interest in supporting children, youth, and families affected by sexual abuse or serious physical harm. 

  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Demonstrated maturity, reliability, professionalism, and dependability. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. 

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationship with community programs and partners is an asset and/or working within a multi-disciplinary team is an asset. 

  • Respect for diverse backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Deep and demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed care as well as Secondary Traumatic Stress/Vicarious Trauma. 

  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system is considered an asset. 

  • Completion of Enhanced Security Clearance and Child Intervention Check
