Relationship and Sexual Health Education (RSE) program helps youth build knowledge, skills, and attitudes to understand sexuality, explore gender and identity, foster healthy relationships, and support positive development now and in the future. This position has a specific focus on delivering our RSE program in schools and community-based settings in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Centre for Sexuality is a community-based organization that provides access to non-judgmental sexual and reproductive health services and support. We are hiring two amazing facilitators to join our motivated team with a mission to normalize sexual health in Alberta.

Relationship and Sexual Health Education (RSE) offers youth the opportunity to gain knowledge, understanding, and skills to cultivate positive attitudes towards sexuality, increase knowledge about gender and identity development, enhance and maintain high-quality interpersonal relationships with friends, family, peers, and romantic partners, and achieve healthy developmental milestones now and in the future. The content relates to three core and interconnected domains: sexual and reproductive health promotion and education, healthy and respectful relationships education, and violence prevention and consent skills promotion. Comprehensive Relationship and Sexual Health education promotes sexual well-being, prevents negative sexual health outcomes, and supports the development of respectful relationships free from violence.

This position has a specific focus on delivering our Relationship and Sexual Health Education program in schools and community-based settings in Calgary and the surrounding area.

As our successful candidate, you will:

  • Implement and facilitate the RSE curriculum to program fidelity in school-based settings with youth grades 7-12, primarily in person, with occasional online facilitation.  
  • Implement and facilitate an adapted community based RSE curriculum to program fidelity in community settings with youth aged 13-29, primarily in person, with occasional online facilitation.  
  • Create safer learning environments for youth to participate in transformational learning experiences. 
  • Remain up to date with, and employ, best and promising practices in pedagogy, social-emotional learning, sexual health promotion, gender equity and masculinity, relationship education, and violence prevention. 
  • Participate as an active member of the RSE team to ensure curriculum content is up-to-date and relevant to the needs of the youth we serve. 
  • Participate in program evaluations by collecting, entering, and analyzing program data and outcomes. 
  • Participate in community development activities to advertise programs and build connections with potential community partners. 
  • Provide occasional support for community events, wellness fairs, and information sessions, as needed. 
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients (i.e., program participants, teachers, parents), colleagues, and community members. 
  • Participate in regular performance planning and review. 

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in child and youth studies, education, public health, or social work, and/or a minimum of 2 years of related work experience.
  • Commitment to transformational learning facilitation practices. 
  • Strong group facilitation experience with youth. 
  • Knowledge of and/or experience facilitating core topics related to the RSE curriculum.   
  • Experience addressing homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and ableism that commonly arises in universal education spaces experiencing transformational learning. 
  • Demonstrated experience with community engagement values and practice. 
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to make appropriate referrals. 
  • Commitment to organizational values: Social Justice/Feminism, Prevention, Collaboration and Curiosity. 
  • Commitment to youth engagement. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. 
  • Demonstration of empathy and compassion. 
  • Demonstration of curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning. 
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment. 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, in a fast-paced, open-space work environment. 
  • Ability to facilitate effectively in a virtual setting including operating various online delivery platforms. 

 Additional details:
This is a full-time permanent position working 35 hours per week that includes frequent driving within the city and surrounding rural areas. The candidate must have a reliable vehicle, appropriate insurance, and be comfortable driving in all seasons. 
The successful candidate must be able to provide a police information record check with vulnerable sector search and has valid First Aid, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and CPR certifications (or willingness to become certified) and be available to work some evenings and weekends as community-based programs are often delivered outside of regular business hours.
The position is based at our Calgary Office and reports directly to the Team Lead of Education. The salary range for the position is $54,000-$59,000 annually with a comprehensive benefit package and an excellent work environment.
