Family Literacy Facilitator

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Family Literacy Facilitator is responsible for implementing the Learning Starts at Home Program for parents with children ages 3-7.This is a part-time, hourly, contract position. The employment term will begin on February 1st, 2025, and run through the end of August 2025 with a possibility for an extension, with an average of 16 hrs/week. The actual daily and hourly schedule will depend on program requirements. As program sessions occur after traditional school hours, the Facilitator must be available during late afternoon and early evening hours.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching families 1:1 in their home based on the Science of Reading and guide the development of an individualized learning curriculum for each family 

  • Monitoring and assessing family progress on an ongoing basis 

  • Collecting, recording, and reporting all necessary information related to families on time 

  • Participating in staff meetings 

  • Participating in professional development as appropriate to the position 

 

Qualifications: 

Education & Experience  

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent with experience 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Science of Reading approach to evidence-based reading instruction 

  • Knowledge of adult foundational learner characteristics and adult learning principles 

 

Skills  

  • Ability to implement effective instructional practices, strategies, and assessment 

  • Initiative for working independently with minimal supervision 

  • Ability to manage time and workload and to work collaboratively with others  

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills 

  • Energy, enthusiasm, and motivation for continuous professional development
