Position Summary:
Miskanawah is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions and evidence-based practices in human services, to support vulnerable children, youth and families.
Responsibilities:
- Supports families in their home
- Establishes and maintains a trusting relationship with families
- Applies knowledge of parent-child interactions, child development and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect
- Facilitates discussions about positive parenting
- Uses observation skills to identify family needs and implement effective interventions
- Assist parents in accessing resources
- Act as a liaison between families and other community agencies wherever necessary
- Establishes and effectively implements a family support plan with goals, objectives, and activities identified with parents
- Reports critical incidents to immediate supervisor as per Miskanawah Policy and Procedures
- Meet with supervisor regularly for supervision on client files
- Has knowledge of community resources and uses them appropriately to meet the needs of the family.
- Records home visit observations and activities in a complete, concise, and timely manner as required.
- Completes ASQ and ASQ-SE assessments with families to inform Developmental Support Plans
- Appropriately establishes boundaries and sets limits in relationship with families
- Assists parents with paperwork needed in applications for program such as medical or financial assistance.
- Participates in regular staff meetings, case conference, in-service training and other meetings as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills and experiences:
- Knowledge of and willingness to engage in Indigenous cultural traditions
- Experience working with families
- Knowledge and understanding of FASD, healthy child/parent attachment, child development, and complex needs,
- Commitment to incorporating up to date research-based approaches
- Ability to take initiative
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment

- Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Child Intervention Check
- Valid First Aid or CPR certification
- Suicide Awareness Training
- Crisis Intervention Training
- Self-Harm Training
- Quality Improvement and Outcomes Training
- Indigenous Awareness
- Diversity Training
- Use of a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability
- Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract with minimal demerits
