CCIS is seeking a passionate and experienced Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Literacy Instructor with a strong background in foundational literacy to join our team.

Position Summary:
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of teaching learners who are developing basic literacy skills in English, including those with limited or interrupted formal education. This role requires a patient, innovative, and culturally sensitive educator who can build a supportive learning environment and tailor instruction to meet the diverse needs of adult newcomers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver CLB-aligned LINC literacy classes with a focus on foundational literacy development
  • Design and implement engaging, level-appropriate activities that support reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for pre-benchmark and CLB 1 learners
  • Assess learners’ needs and progress using PBLA (Portfolio-Based Language Assessment) principles
  • Adapt materials and approaches for learners with limited literacy in their first language
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and learner-centred classroom environment
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and progress reports
  • Collaborate with program staff to support learner success and community integration

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, TESL, or a related field
  • TESL Canada certification or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience teaching adult ESL learners, with a strong focus on literacy-level learners
  • Demonstrated expertise in foundational literacy instruction
  • Familiarity with PBLA and the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB)
  • Experience with trauma-informed and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Successful applicants will be legally entitled to work in Canada.
