CCIS’s Community Development & Integration Services (CDIS) Division is looking for our next Mental Health Therapist (Children & Youth) and is accepting applications from qualified job seekers!

Functional Statement:

The Mental Health Therapist acts as an integral team member in building resilience with refugees and immigrants who have experienced trauma, through coordinated community, social, and mental health support.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
 

  • As part of an interdisciplinary team, provide counselling using trauma-informed and evidence-based treatment specific to client needs and work collaboratively with the team to provide continuity of care to clients
  • Provide culturally relevant services in a brief intervention model (up to 5 sessions) for adults who are experiencing distress relating to a history of trauma, with a focus on stabilization and establishing safety
  • Provide culturally relevant services in a mid-term trauma intervention model (up to 16 sessions) for adults, youth, or families with refugee-related experiences
  • Conduct therapy sessions with the use of an interpreter, in both an online setting and in-person, depending on the needs of the client
  • Complete and compile confidential counselling client records, assessment and evaluative processes congruent with relevant professional guidelines
  • Provide consultative services to address changing needs of counselling clients (for clients, team members, and other professionals as needed)
  • Provide statistical and narrative information on the therapy program for clinical evaluation, funding applications, reports, and research
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team within CCIS
  • Participate in case consultations and clinical supervision sessions with other team members
  • Develop and review goals towards personal, professional, and organizational development
  • Work in accordance with professional Code of Ethics of accrediting association
  • Manage schedule of clients and work to remove barriers to accessing service
  • Travel offsite to serve clients (primarily in community agencies, schools, or other related settings)

Qualifications:
 

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or another related field
  • Registered with the appropriate professional association
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience, including trauma related intervention
  • Specialization and training in culturally competent trauma-informed practices which could include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, Expressive Arts, Solutions Focused Brief Therapy, etc.  
  • Experience in treating trauma and other issues prevalent to the refugee population (Depression, anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD)
  • Strong knowledge of community resources
  • Strong skills in working with technology
  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally competent clinical services among ethnically diverse population
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings to accommodate clients
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable transportation.
  • Ability to communicate in a second language considered an asset
