The Philanthropy Officer plays a key role in advancing Alzheimer Calgary’s overall philanthropy strategy, working closely with a collaborative team to drive revenue, deepen relationships, and grow community engagement. This role leads the organization’s events strategy, including the development and execution of the annual Walk & Run.

Position: Philanthropy Officer
Reports to: Director of Philanthropy

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for growing and managing the event from a philanthropy lens, including donor and participant engagement, sponsorship development, and long-term relationship building. While an Event Coordinator supports the execution of event logistics, the Philanthropy Officer acts as the primary liaison, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with fundraising priorities.

Beyond the Walk & Run, the Philanthropy Officer supports a range of fundraising activities, including online giving, donor stewardship, and community-based events, contributing to a cohesive and integrated approach across the philanthropy team. This role works closely with volunteers, sponsors, donors, vendors, and community partners.

Areas of Responsibility:
Lead Alzheimer Calgary’s signature fundraising event, the Alzheimer Calgary Walk & Run. Working collaboratively with a contracted Event Coordinator, you will ensure planning stays on track to meet identified outcomes and goals. Your focus will be on:

  • Building and strengthening relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, sponsors, registrants, vendors, volunteers, and participants
  • Identifying, securing, and stewarding event sponsors, with a focus on building long-term, values-aligned partnerships
  • Overseeing the external Event Coordinator to ensure event logistics are executed, including event permitting, vendor contracts, etc.
  • Driving the communications strategy to boost registrations and fundraising efforts, in collaboration with the Communications Team. This will include executing the Walk & Run email engagement series throughout the year.
  • Supporting registrants, team captains, fundraisers, and donors as needed, including helping people navigate the website, register online, etc.
  • Serving as the event day lead, overseeing delivery and execution in partnership with the Event Coordinator
  • Leading post-event activities, including stewardship, feedback collection, and performance evaluation
  • Analyzing event performance and key data to inform strategy, optimize results, and support continued growth

Supporting other fundraising activities including, but not limited to:

  • Identifying opportunities for growth in digital and email campaigns, as well as the drafting and execution of email campaigns based on best practices
  • Supporting community fundraisers by providing guidance, advice, materials, and attending events on behalf of Alzheimer Calgary as required
  • Supporting stewardship activities as necessary, such as coordination of the annual holiday mailing, drafting content for the newsletter, and completing ongoing donor touchpoints

Other tasks as required to support the Philanthropy Team.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience, and a minimum of two years’ experience working in a fundraising environment and/or events.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills. Flexibility with changing priorities and ability to remain focused to meet timelines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, comfort in communicating by phone and email, and a strong attention to detail.
  • Technical skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn systems quickly (Luminate, Raiser’s Edge, Klaviyo)
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
