The Project Coordinator reports to the Director of Strategy and Impact and coordinates the implementation of the Centre’s Unaddressed Project. The Unaddressed Project is a partnership among five organizations, with the Women’s Centre acting as lead convenor and backbone. It aims to unearth the scope and scale of women and gender diverse peoples’ housing need and homelessness in Calgary, and work to develop policy and service-level solutions to ultimately improve housing outcomes.

Organizational background
The Women’s Centre of Calgary is a community organization that provides a safe and supportive space accessed by thousands of women and girls in Calgary. Our mission is to be every woman’s place for support, connections, and community. Specifically, we connect with women looking for assistance, for opportunities to connect and/or for ways to affect change in their community.

Position overview
The Project Coordinator reports to the Director of Strategy and Impact and coordinates the implementation of the Centre’s Unaddressed Project. The Unaddressed Project is a partnership among five organizations, with the Women’s Centre acting as lead convenor and backbone. It aims to unearth the scope and scale of women and gender diverse peoples’ housing need and homelessness in Calgary, and work to develop policy and service-level solutions to ultimately improve housing outcomes and reduce homelessness among women, gender diverse people, and their children. The coordinator will support the project with partnership support, project management, stakeholder communications, and research and writing in the fields of women’s housing and homelessness as needed. The position is a full-time, 6 month contract position.

Duties & Responsibilities

Partnerships and Collaboratives

  • Act as a liaison between Women’s Centre and partnering organizations involved in Unaddressed
  • Seeks out and develops new and strategic partnerships that support the Unaddressed Project
  • Act as administrative support for partnership meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation and follow-up communications

Policy & Government Relations

  • Support the Women’s Centre’s executive team, and partnering organizations, to build and maintain relationships with relevant government stakeholders
  • Support the Unaddressed Project by writing and researching relevant policy materials as needed
  • Monitor and assess how changing social, economic and political landscapes affect the Unaddressed Project

Communications

  • Lead the development of communication strategies for the Unaddressed Project in collaboration with partner organizations and the WC’s Communications Coordinator
  • Create Unaddressed Project related content for social media, website and blog and support with the preparation of media releases and other communications materials as needed

Community Engagement

  • Support partnering organizations to coordinate, develop and implement the evidence-gathering process of the Unaddressed Project
    • This could include scheduling, coordinating and leading focus groups, one-to-one interviews, survey administration, etc.

Project Management

  • Support the Director or Public Policy and Strategic Partnerships, and partnering organizations, to ensure the Unaddressed Project is moving forward in alignment with agreed upon timelines, budget and project priorities

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Public Policy, Communications, Political Science or related field of study
  • 3 years of experience working in a non-profit or community organizing setting
  • Understanding of gender, accessibility, and diversity issues in addition to systematic issues and root causes; commitment to improving the status of women and girls through policy change
  • Demonstrated commitment to Reconciliation and Anti-Racism
  • Demonstrated “go getter” attitude, not afraid to take calculated risks, or “fail forward”
  • Experienced relationship builder across diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse teams in a dynamic and open workplace

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with project management and coordination between multiple stakeholders is an asset
  • Experience in public policy research, writing and advocacy
  • Experience with communications and social media engagement
  • Experience working with or lived expertise in homelessness, housing precarity and/or domestic violence

Lines of Communication/Accountability: 

  • Reports to:  Director, Strategy and Impact
  • Works closely with:  Social Change Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, partner organizations

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements: 

The Women’s Centre is a store front community center operating in an open environment.  This means:

  • You will witness or respond to real life incidents and events in real time
  • You are working in a noisy and often lively environment, with very little privacy or quiet time.

This role will require attendance and participation in off-site meetings and events in the community. This position requires some evening and occasional weekend work.
