Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Family Support Worker to join our team at Emma House. Family Emma House Support workers (FSW) work at our Emma House location with expectant mothers or mothers whom have recently given birth, and are experiencing homelessness. FSW’s provide emotional support, basic needs support for mothers and babies during their stay at Emma House and work collaboratively with Case Managers and other program staff.

 

This is relief position, and will require availability for varied shifts, including evening and overnight shifts.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Engage with mothers and children, develop rapport, offer support and model positive, compassionate and healthy professional relationships and boundaries.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all babies/children and mothers residing at Emma House; provide crisis intervention when needed.
  • Oversee daily house operations, and provide responsive care that supports the daily health and wellness needs of families during their stay at Emma House.
  • Work collaboratively with Case Managers to assist in connecting mothers to appropriate resources and services.
  • Work closely with Program Supervisor and Case Managers to support the family case plan, birthing plan, and housing plan closer to graduation.
  • Provide child-minding support when necessary.

 

This position description reflects the general duties of the role, but is not intended to include all duties that may be inherent in the position. The Relief Emma House Family Support Worker may be asked to perform other duties as required or assigned.

 

What You Bring to Our Mission

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Work, Child/Youth Care or related field of study is preferred; a combination of experience and other education may be considered.
  • Experience working with at risk/vulnerable women, children and/or the homeless sector.
  • Experience working in a congregate living setting is an asset.
  • Knowledge of community resources and supports for mothers and children.
  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required
  • Excellent teamwork, collaborative problem-solving and team building skills
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in English
  • Must be available for varied shifts, including evening and overnight shifts.
