Position Summary:

Miskanawah is an Indigenous agency that draws jointly from the strengths and guidance of Indigenous teachings and traditions and evidence-based practices in human services, to support vulnerable children, youth and families.

The re:Vision Youth Employment Program Team Lead under the direction of Miskanawah’s Manager, will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the re:Vision Youth Employment Program. The Team Lead will plan, schedule, and assess activities to ensure that youth, who are not currently employed or in school, have opportunities to obtain meaningful employment. This role requires a strong understanding of the barriers Indigenous Youth encounter when seeking employment. The Team Lead will also be responsible for finding employers that are open to hiring and supporting Indigenous youth.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as an advocate for Indigenous youth
  • Provide feedback, support, and formal supervision to staff team
  • Respect and protect the rights of clients, including but not limited to their right to independence, autonomy, and self-determination; their right to choose and practice individual values, beliefs, religion, and culture; and their right to privacy and dignity
  • Support youth to access additional supports through other programs and/or agencies
  • Schedule or conduct follow-up meetings/appointments with employers
  • Actively identify and connect with employers who are open and willing to hire Indigenous youth
  • Research potential opportunities, conducting outreach, including cold calling or emailing, and building relationships with businesses committed to inclusive hiring practices
  • Encourage open communication among youth and employers when discussing issues, problems, or concerns
  • Respond to difficult situations and mediate difficult conversations when necessary
  • Plan, schedule, and facilitate cultural awareness training for employers
  • Work alongside Elders and Knowledge Holders
  • Ensure outcomes data is collected and reported accurately
  • Prepare and submit reports to funder
  • Ensure that all employees comply with agency policies, procedures, and ethical standards

Skills and experiences:  

  • Degree in human services field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with youth
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring 
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships
  • Ability to prioritize, time manage, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to new tasks
  • Foundation of Indigenous cultural knowledge and connections in Treaty 7 community

Requirements:

  • Current Police Security and Child Intervention Record checks with satisfactory results
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability, permission to carry passengers and business coverage on the vehicle
  • Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract with minimal demerits Driving in various road conditions
  • Attendance and participation in training
  • Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting
  • Flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
