Job Title: Daycare Manager
Department: Childcare
Reports to: Director of Programs
Hours: 35 hours/week, between 7:30am-5:30pm with some flexibility
Salary Range: $42,800 – $45,200 (before top-up)

Position Description:
The Daycare Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the daycare. This includes maintaining the general well-being of the program and staff and overseeing appropriate supervision and safety practices. The Program Manager is the pedagogical educator/coordinator for the program, and it is their role to foster the holistic well-being of each child while nurturing their sense of belonging and identity within safe, healthy and responsive environments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Program Development
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Manager, support the implementation of the FLIGHT Curriculum and other emerging best practices to ensure the daycare is providing a vibrant and engaging experience for all children
    • Provide pedagogical guidance, observation, and create opportunities for self-reflection and goal setting with educators through documentation
    • Create and foster opportunities for engagement across HSCA programs
  • Staff Leadership and Coaching
    • Ensure all human resource and regulatory requirements are accurate and current for all daycare employees (first aid, police clearance, etc.)
    • Provide leadership and coaching to all daycare educators 
    • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management in collaboration with the Assistant Manager 
    • Lead team meetings
    • Display exemplary work ethic, a kind demeanor, and a positive attitude
    • Foster an environment of teamwork, unity and collaboration across the organization
  • Programming and Administration
    • Support Assistant Manager in maintaining staff schedule
    • Approvals for employee scheduling including vacation, lieu, and sick time 
    • Ensure program policies are accurate, current, and meet all the regulatory requirements
    • Support the Assistant Manager with registration and orientation of new children and parents
    • Maintain a schedule of daily activities supporting the implementation of the FLIGHT Curriculum Framework
    • Maintain accurate and current child records in accordance with HSCA policies and all regulatory requirements
    • Oversee Health and Safety Standards
    • Provide on floor supervision of children as required
    • Meet and maintain Licensing Standards and Regulations
    • Submit Government subsidy/top up claims for educators and children monthly (as needed)
    • Policy reviews with educators
    • Finances and deposits
    • Oversight and support of waitlist inquiries
  • Relationships and Engagement
    • Maintain positive and professional relationships with children, parents, staff, and the broader HSCA
    • Maintain communication with parent in various ways, including in person, through parent board, phone, email communications, and in a regular newsletter
    • Work collaboratively with HSCA’s other programs and services
  • Problem Solving and Professional Practice
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Manager in handling child/family/parent conflicts or concerns
    • Address situations of challenging child behaviour 
    • Follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents and incidents 
    • Provide mediation in the event of inappropriate staff or parent behaviour
  • Additional duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an Office Administrator, Office Manager, Childcare Manager, or other similar role
  • Early Childhood Education diploma or degree with current certification
  • Experience in supervisory or leadership role
  • Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Acts & Regulations
  • Valid Criminal Record including vulnerable sector screening
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Familiarity with office management and basic accounting procedures
  • Experience with human resource management
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with FLIGHT curriculum planning
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a team (childcare team, an asset)
  • Positive attitude and friendly demeanor along with excellent leadership skills and the ability to follow and enforce programming requirements
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new software, procedures, and systems 
  • Familiarity with Timesavr or other similar software, an asset
  • Certificate or degree in administration or accounting, an asset
  • Experience working in a daycare, an asset
