Calgary Quest Children’s Society  is moving forward! With a growing waitlist and the recent opening of our Barlow Campus in addition to our Sunalta Campus, we are rapidly expanding our reach to support children and young adults with complex learning needs. Calgary Quest Children’s Society (CQCS) is a vibrant and innovative organization offering programs to children, teens, and young adults with moderate to severe developmental disabilities and support to their families. CQCS offers three core programming areas that serve our diverse population during their key learning and developing years:
  • Calgary Quest School is a special education independent school that provides educational programming to children and youth with developmental disabilities.
  • Calgary Quest Centre for Opportunity is our youth-to-adult transition program for young adults ages 18-28 with developmental disabilities; and
  • Our Care and Recreation program provides summer camps and before and after school care.
CQCS is a registered charitable organization and has been a leader in special education within Calgary and the surrounding communities for over 45 years.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

Our organization is ready to grow, and we require an individual with a strong background in marketing and communications to support this objective.  The Community Relations Coordinator reports to the Director of Development and supports the planning, management, and implementation of all marketing, communications, and promotional campaigns as well as fund development. This position is broad in nature, working collaboratively with leadership to implement the vision and it requires a skilled innovator that can work independently as well as collaborate with our team. 

The Community Relations Coordinator will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Implement marketing and communication initiatives and programs throughout the organization, working with staff to ensure all outbound communications are clear and effective while ensuring brand management standards are maintained
  • Support strong internal communication to achieve individual and organizational goals  
  • Support media relations; craft and distribute media releases and coordinate any press requests  
  • Coordinate (and regularly monitor) all social media activity (LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram); responsible for content and graphic creation
  • Develop and implement promotional strategies that support fund development efforts, including digital campaigns (eg. Giving Tuesday) and third-party fundraising opportunities (eg. Servus Calgary Marathon)
  • Support donor stewardship and engagement strategies, eg. Impact reports, tours, presentations
  • Create marketing and communication materials including digital and print
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-Secondary degree in Communications, Business or similar
  • Two plus years of marketing and communications experience  
  • Experience working in a non-profit or educational environment 
  • Exceptional Microsoft Office skills  
  • Experience with Canva or Photoshop
  • Strong knowledge of digital media, social media, and related tools
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is an in-office position. Due to the nature of the role, applicants acknowledge that some evening and weekend availability may be required outside of regular business hours.
The Applicant WHO IS OFFERED EMPLOYMENT must complete and pass a ‘police security clearance’ and a ‘vulnerable sector check’. This is a unionized position and the successful candidate will be part of UFCW local 401.
