Job Opportunity: Events & Engagement Coordinator

The Students’ Association of Mount Royal University (SAMRU) is seeking a creative and adaptable Events & Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Events & Engagement Manager, this role enhances the student experience by providing vibrant, real-time connections through social media, creative event coordination, and direct outreach.

This is a multifaceted role for a storyteller and organizer who focuses on the experience, quality, and character of SAMRU’s interactions with its members.

 

Key Responsibilities
Events Development & Implementation:

  • Contribute to creative ideation and theme development for all departmental events to ensure vibrant content.
  • Draft event scripts, hosting elements, and speaking notes to maintain a consistent SAMRU presence.
  • Adhere to project budgets and strategically source resources like decor and supplies.
  • Support events set up and tear down while meeting established project timelines.

Social Media Engagement:

  • Draft and maintain the master SAMRU social media content calendar.
  • Generate, edit, and publish frequent content including stories, reels, and posts to build meaningful connections.
  • Monitor and moderate all platforms in real-time to foster a service-focused community.
  • Maintain awareness of digital trends and student audience tastes to ensure content is “on-trend” and relevant.
  • Coordinate content flow by liaising with internal SAMRU clients and curating outside sources.
  • Apply the SAMRU style guide to ensure brand consistency across all digital illustrations and text.

Student Outreach & Supervision:

  • Supervise and develop part-time, seasonal SAMRU Ambassadors through coaching and experiential growth opportunities.
  • Oversee staff schedules, work plans, and payroll requirements as directed.
  • Maintain a service-focused atmosphere for events and outreach, resolving customer issues and investigations.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of waged staff.

What You Bring

  • A post-secondary credential in a related field (e.g. Communications, Marketing, Event Management)
  • Experience in social media content creation (Reels, Stories, and Posts) and community moderation.
  • Proven experience in event coordination.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for branding and style guides.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to think quickly and provide clear, professional responses.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team while exercising judgement and initiative.
