Job Title: Daycare Alternate Manager
Department: Childcare
Reports to: Daycare Manager
Hours: 35 hours/week, between 7:30am-5:30pm with some flexibility Position Type: This is a full-time position starting as soon as possible Salary Range: $37,500 – $40,600 (before top-up)
 

Organization Description:

Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association (HSCA) is a vibrant, inclusive community centre offering community-based programming, childcare, sports and recreation facilities, and private hall rentals for business functions and special events. HSCA is a complex organization which encompasses a wide range of programs and services delivered seven days a week.

Position Description:

This role supports the Daycare Manager in the day-to-day operations of Daycare program. Additionally, this position is the acting Program Manager when the Daycare Manager is absent to ensure the supervision and safety practices are being followed by staff while looking after the general well-being of the program. This role will mentor the team and fosterthe holistic well-being of each child while nurturing their sense of belonging and identity within safe, healthy and responsive environments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Program Development
    • Support emerging best practices to ensure the Daycare program is providing a vibrant and engaging experience for all children
    • Provide guidance, observation, and create opportunities for self-reflection and goal setting with educators through documentation
  • Staff Leadership and Coaching
    • Ensure all human resource and regulatory requirements are accurate and current for all Daycare employees (first aid, police clearance, etc.)
    • Provide leadership and coaching to all Daycare educators
    • Train new educators during probationary period
  • Programming and Administration

 

    • Registration and orientation of new children and parents
    • Complete the staff schedule (in absence of the Manager)
    • Maintain a schedule of activities supporting emerging best practices in all classrooms
    • Maintain and update accurate and complete child records in accordance with HSCA policies and all regulatory requirements
    • Oversee Health and Safety Standards
    • Sign of on monthly safety checklists and ensure they are maintained
    • Provide on floor supervision of children as required, including during staff absences
    • Meet and maintain Licensing Standards and Regulations
    • Policy reviews with educators
    • Finances and deposits (as needed)
    • Preparation of grocery ordering in partnership with childcare cook
    • Oversight and upkeep of waitlist inquiries
  • Relationships and Engagement
    • Maintain positive and professional relationships with children, parents, staff, and the broader HSCA
    • Maintain communication with parent in various ways, including in person, through parent board, phone, and email communications
    • If both the Out of School Care Manager and Out of School Care Team Lead are absent, sub in as support Management for the Out of School Care Program
  • Problem Solving and Professional Practice
    • Collaborate with the Manager in handling child/family/parent conflicts or concerns
    • Address situations of challenging child behaviour
    • Follow appropriate procedures in the event of accidents and incidents
  • Additional duties as needed

About You:

We are seeking a confident, compassionate, and adaptable Alternate Manager to support the Manager and the day-to-day operations of our daycare. The ideal candidate is highly organized, communicates effectively, and remains calmunder pressure. They love being a mentor and supporting fellow educators while fostering a positive and collaborative team culture. This role requires someone who can creatively solve challenges, support quality programming, and represent the organization and its programs in a professional, positive, and welcoming manner, always keeping the wellbeing of children, staff, and families at the center of their leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Level 3 Certification
  • Experience in supervisory or leadership role (an asset)
  • Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Acts & Regulations
  • Valid Criminal Record including vulnerable sector screening
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with FLIGHT curriculum planning
  • Positive attitude and friendly demeanor, and the ability to follow and enforce programming requirements
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
  • Familiarity with KinderLogix (formerly known as Timesavr) or other similar software (an asset)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a Daycare
