The Opportunity
We are looking for an exceptional Business Intelligence Developer who will work collaboratively across all departments, using data modeling, data analysis, and data visualization techniques to support the organization in making business decisions with data. As our ideal candidate, you have a passion for data coupled with the ability to influence change that will lead to positive results. Through your detailed analysis, you will identify data trends, define business needs, and determine recommendations for organizational growth and improvement.
You are a technical expert, able to query data, pull lists, develop, deploy and maintain reports/dashboards across numerous databases/technologies to meet business needs. You will work with a variety of people, both internally and externally, managing the flow of information so that relevant data is captured, analyzed, summarized, and shared with the proper stakeholders. Our office is located onsite at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Combining the flexibility of working from home with the benefits of gathering in person, both in office and remote work is required for this role. This is a temporary, full-time, term position for fifteen (15) months with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities
In your role as the Business Intelligence Developer, you will focus on the following core responsibilities:

In collaboration with key stakeholders, define required analysis, reporting requirements, and insights to meet business needs.

Evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, identify areas of opportunity, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Review and produce existing lists and reports with an objective to improve, transition to automated reports and provide documentation.

Data administration and management where needed to improve data hygiene and optimize data imports, exports, merges and reporting, as well as business processes. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data and applications through analysis, clear documentation, reporting, and problem resolution.

Analyze existing reporting; provide recommendations on data-driven opportunities to improve, inform, and determine the best operational course for the business.

Ensure recommendations and solutions meet business requirements.

Work on data pipelines, data models, and data visualizations, adapting reporting to enhance audience understanding. Conduct research in support of organizational needs.

Identify opportunities for useful data segmentation.

Monitor deliverables and ensure timely completion of projects. Manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Assist with the development, maintenance, and enhancement of the organizations data infrastructure and reporting.

Where required, document and implement organizational data policies and procedures, providing recommendations as needed to align with best practices.

Participate as a member of the data conversion team, using knowledge/experience to influence the implementation and governance of data architecture.
As our Ideal candidate, you have:

Three (3) years of experience in a similar role complemented by a post-secondary degree with a specialization in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, or another relevant field. Suitable combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Previous experience in the not-for-profit sector with an understanding of fundraising principles, ethics, and practices is preferred although not required. Your passion for data, desire for meaningful work, and alignment with our vision, mission, and values will support your success in this role.

Direct experience working with CRM/ERP databases and peripheral systems; experience with Raiser’s Edge/Financial Edge, Classy, SmartSimple, MailChimp, Salesforce or Dynamics would be considered assets. The role requires in depth experience with Power BI, Tableau (or similar) and R/DAX/SQL as well as advanced level proficiency in the Office 365 suite of products.

Demonstrated success in developing enterprise dashboards, reports, and working with databases, data warehouses and cloud data platforms like Azure.

Well-established project and time management skills. You are self-directed and hold yourself accountable for meeting deadlines, completing projects, and ensuring you deliver on commitments and responsibilities.

Demonstrated expertise and ability to find relevant data, interpret it, and make logical recommendations relative to business needs and strategy. You are innovative and use multiple techniques to identify and evaluate solutions.

A strong focus on delivering positive experiences for clients/stakeholders. Your persuasive communication, writing, reporting, and presentation skills are complemented by your keen ability to adapt style and medium to target technical and non-technical audiences in a clear, respectful, and professional manner.
