Functional Statement:
This position provides support and ongoing case management to clients after a mental health crisis. CCIS is hiring for this position within the Centre for Refugee Resilience program. This position will collaborate closely with the BENCH team and partners. The crisis support caseworker acts as an integral team member in building resilience with immigrants who have experienced a recent mental health crisis, through coordinated community, social, and mental health support.
Responsibilities: Primary Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Facilitate individual and family intakes and collaboratively assess the crisis/client needs
- Coordinate mental health and community support services according to the needs identified by the crisis clients and other partners
- Provide assessment, safety planning, and interventions for clients in the months after a mental health crisis to identify support and strategies towards safety and stability.
- Provide ongoing case management and maintain a cross-cultural caseload.
- Engage natural support, including cultural support, to promote resilience
- Bridge referrals to the community for ongoing support that suits clients’ needs
- Build community capacity to respond to newcomer crisis needs
- Liaise with clients’ support network to address the needs of shared crisis clients
- Coordinate and participate in case conferences as needed
- Work collaboratively with a diverse and multi-disciplinary team as part of the BENCH collaborative and within CCIS
- Practice personal self-care and support the needs of team members
- Complete evaluation and reporting of program activities that fit funder outcomes and indicators as outlined by the BENCH Project
- Participate in the evaluative processes that fuel the project’s agile design
Qualifications:
- Education
- Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related professional expertise
- Experience
- Proven track record of working with multiple stakeholders, maximizing collaboration and creative community solutions
- Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse individuals and families
- Experience providing support to individuals facing mental health challenges
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting
- Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse individuals and families
- Experience providing support to individuals facing mental health challenges
- Experience with not-for-profit agencies considered an asset
Experience in managing confidential client and program data
Competent verbal and written communication, computer skills
- Knowledge/skills
- Knowledge and understanding of issues related to the successful settlement of newcomers
- Demonstrates culturally relevant approaches to working with vulnerable newcomers
- Anti-oppressive, trauma-informed lens practice
Excellent self-awareness and self-regulation skills in high-pressure environments - Knowledge of community and health resources in Calgary
- Work Abilities:
- Written and verbal communication skills to work collaboratively and communicate effectively within a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting
- Flexibility to work a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings to accommodate clients; some work on evenings and weekends will be required
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, organize one’s work and records
- Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset
