Description

Centre for Sexuality is a community-based organization that provides access to non-judgmental sexual and reproductive health services and supports. As our Gender-Specific Programs Team Lead, you will join a motivated team with a mission to normalize sexual health in Alberta. The role will support logistic, reporting, and administrative functions for our Gender-Specific Programs, Girls Program and WiseGuyz. This position will also support the development of content knowledge, program knowledge, facilitation skills and partnership management skills in program facilitators, through coaching, mentorship, and in-program support (co-facilitation, observation, debrief).

The Girls Program is a participatory school-based program developed by the Centre for Sexuality for pre-pubescent and early pubescent girls. The program is designed to build foundational sexual health knowledge, social-emotional skills, and capacities necessary to overcome girl-specific challenges to achieve current and future wellbeing.
 
The WiseGuyz Program is a healthy relationships program developed by the Centre for Sexuality. It facilitates mid-adolescent, male-identified youth to critically examine and deconstruct male gender role stereotypes and expectations, with the objective of improving the mental and sexual health of young men and reducing male-perpetrated dating violence. As an internationally recognized inclusive masculinity program, WiseGuyz benefits from significant academic research partnerships. 

Working closely, with the Youth Programs Manager, this position will provide supervision for 6 facilitators across both programs.
  
As our successful candidate, you will provide support in the following areas:

Training, Coaching, Support

  • Build mentorship relationships with facilitators founded on careful listening and response, affirming strengths, building trust, managing distress/discomfort and encouragement. 
  • Create a supportive environment which enables the exchange of knowledge, the identification of barriers to implementation, and implement processes/initiatives to overcome barriers.
  • Using data obtained in program fidelity assessments, responsible for coaching and supporting facilitators to improve and adhere to program fidelity standards and identify common themes to inform future professional development opportunities.
  • Work with the Youth Programs Manager to design and facilitate Youth Programs team training. 
  • Role models organizational and program values through interactions with all team members. 
  • Work with the Youth Programs Manager and individual team members to create performance development plans to support their facilitation practice and effective program delivery.
  • Responsible for being a ‘content expert’ with extensive knowledge about Girls Program and WiseGuyz program content and design and implementation of program.
  • Responsible for ensuring that Gender Specific Program Facilitators understand the program, processes to achieve learning outcomes, facilitation of activities and program.
  • Execute the Gender Specific Program Facilitator onboarding and Training plan, as guided by the Youth Programs Manager.
  • Supports making abstract program concepts practical and applicable (e.g., Transformational Learning), and helps facilitators understand application of program theories to facilitation.
  • Support facilitators to make appropriate adaptations, when needed, within the limits of fidelity (green/yellow) and what cannot be adapted (red).
  • Stay up to date on current trends, research, and best practices that impact projects and programs.
  • Model excellent youth-focused facilitation skills, using facilitation expertise to train and uphold a high standard of facilitation across the teams.
  • Responsible for assessing and supporting adherence to program fidelity and completing program fidelity assessments (direct observation of competence and fidelity to curriculum, feedback processes).  
  • Gather data, using tools provided, to determine performance, areas of strength and areas of improvement with regards to content knowledge, facilitation skill, and partnership management practices. 
  • Assess facilitator competence and readiness (through assessment tool); reviews performance data and create fidelity summary reports to share with Youth Programs Manager in a timely manner.

Program Administration 
 

  • Support Facilitators in their pre-and post- run communication with partner schools.
  • Support booking coordination with partner schools, in the case of booking cancellation/rescheduling. 
  • Ensure facilitators implement pre and post surveys, collate matched pairs and enter our data management system, or prepare for easy entry by the Data Entry Administrator. 
  • Communicate with the Manager in a timely manner regarding high priority and sensitive items (staff wellness or performance concerns, disclosures, partnership changes, etc.)  
  • Participate in program evaluation and continuous improvement efforts for Youth Programs, and specifically the Gender Specific programs. 
  • Follow policy and procedures regarding tracking of time worked, requesting and scheduling time off, requesting program supplies, claiming expenses, and requesting and participating in professional development opportunities.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to program teams, supporting program planning, budgeting,
  • Contribute to program and evaluation reports for funders and leadership team.
  • Participate in annual strategic planning, including a review of program evaluations and lead annual program reviews.
  • Support program facilitators by providing mentorship, supervision, observation, debrief and feedback as it relates to their respective role.
  • Provide training and support for new facilitators through modelling, cofacilitation, observations, and feedback.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team.
  • Actively participate in agency and community collaborations, initiatives, and activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community and school partners, following C4S’s partnership management guidelines.

 Qualifications and Attributes required:

  • Minimum 2 years of staff management and leadership experience.
  • Educational background in a related field (Education, Social Work, Human Services) and/or a combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, primary prevention, gender transformative approaches, and/or delivery of youth education programming
  • Demonstrated experience with community engagement values and practice.
  • Experience delivering youth programs.
  • Commitment to organizational values of social justice, self-determination, collaboration, and prevention.
  • Commitment to continuous program improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrates curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning.

 Additional details:

This is a full-time permanent position working 35 hours per week and will include some travel within the city and surrounding areas, the candidate must have access to a reliable vehicle and appropriate insurance. 
  
The successful candidate must be able to provide a police information record check with vulnerable sector search, has valid First Aid and CPR certifications (or willingness to become certified), and is available to work some evenings and weekends as required. 
  
The position is based at our Calgary Office and reports directly to the Youth Programs Manager. The salary range for the position is $68,000-$73,000 annually with a comprehensive benefit package and an excellent work environment.
