SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Manager – Communications, Marketing & Development will oversee CIWA’s communication strategies, marketing campaigns, fundraising efforts, and public engagement initiatives. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing CIWA’s visibility while building relationships with donors, stakeholders and community members. This position combines strategic thinking with hands-on execution to ensure consistency in branding and alignment with CIWA’s mission.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications and Marketing
- Develop and implement innovative internal and external communication strategies to promote CIWA’s programs and services.
- Oversee the creation of compelling marketing materials such as brochures, newsletters, social media content, blogs, and press releases.
- Manage website updates and ensure timely publication of relevant content.
- Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels.
- Act as the primary contact for media inquiries and coordinate media relations.
- Plan community outreach events to increase public awareness of CIWA’s mission.
Fundraising and Development
- Design and execute fundraising strategies to diversify revenue streams through donor cultivation, corporate sponsorships, grants, and campaigns.
- Build relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders to support CIWA’s revenue generation goals.
- Plan and execute fundraising events such as galas or donor appreciation initiatives.
- Leverage data-driven insights to refine donor engagement tactics and improve campaign effectiveness.
- Explore innovative fundraising trends, such as digital campaigns, peer-to-peer fundraising, and social impact partnerships.
Public Engagement
- Position CIWA as a thought leader in the sector by identifying opportunities for executive speaking engagements, panel discussions, and community leadership.
- Lead public engagement initiatives to foster strong relationships with community members and stakeholders.
- Organize open houses, tours, or public events to showcase CIWA’s programs and impact.
- Collaborate with staff to develop campaigns that encourage participation from diverse audiences.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of communications, marketing and fundraising professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
- Supervise a small team of communications staff, volunteers and contractors.
- Provide strategic leadership in communications, marketing, and fundraising efforts, ensuring alignment with CIWA’s mission and long-term goals.
- Work closely with senior leadership to shape messaging and positioning that enhances CIWA’s reputation and impact.
- Champion interdepartmental collaboration by working with program leads, fund development, and executive teams to ensure unified messaging and strategic growth.
- Serve as a key organizational representative, building and maintaining high-level relationships with external partners, media, and key stakeholders.
- Promote a results-driven approach, setting clear objectives, measuring outcomes, and continuously optimizing strategies to maximize engagement and revenue.
- Provide training on communications tools or platforms as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- At least 5 years of experience in communications, marketing, fundraising, or development roles within a nonprofit or social profit organization.
- Proven success in donor cultivation, grant writing, or executing high-impact fundraising campaigns.
SKILLS
- Strategic thinking with the ability to align communications and fundraising with organizational goals.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders, including media, funders, and community partners.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Thrives both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrates integrity, accountability, professionalism (and a sense of humour!)
- Proficiency in digital tools such as WordPress (or similar CMS), social media platforms (e.g., Facebook), email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp), and donor management software (e.g., Salesforce).
- Strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills for tracking campaign performance metrics.
