Reporting to the Director, Community Impact, the Manager, Community Hubs Initiative will provide strategic leadership and fiduciary oversight in the execution of the Community Hubs Initiative.

Reporting to the Director, Community Impact, the Manager, Community Hubs Initiative will provide strategic leadership and fiduciary oversight in the execution of the Community Hubs Initiative.

What you will do 

  • Community & Strategic Leadership: Oversees key strategic partnerships. The Manager leads the development and implementation of the Community Hubs Initiative, including the integration of the following elements: community development, hub development, project management, community economic development, citizen co-design, leadership, and volunteer engagement activities. The Manager supports each hub site in their development and implementation and ensures alignment with the Community Hubs Strategy and other United Way strategies. 

  • People-Centred Management: A community-informed and equity-informed perspective, grounded in understanding of local social issues in Hubs communities, and the lived experiences of the populations served by Community Hubs and using that insight to guide teams, partners, and decisions. 

  • Team Leadership: Sits within the United Way of Calgary and Area’s Community Impact & Partnerships team and is expected to be an active leader in the work of United Way and within community. The Manager works with the City of Calgary to clearly define and develop the overall Hub business plan, project management plan, roles and responsibilities and implementation plan. 

  • Internal & External Communication: Key stakeholder manager, responsible for attracting and maintaining relationships and partnerships that support the collective impact goals of the Community Hubs initiative. 

  • Learning and Evaluation: Responsible for continuous learning and leadership in effective and proven hub implementation strategies, including active participation in any local, provincial, or national hub initiatives if feasible. The Manager, in collaboration with the evaluation team, is also responsible for the development and implementation of the Community Hubs Initiative Evaluation Framework, as well as creating learning opportunities for the different hub sites to support each other. 

  • Resource Development: Works with United Way of Calgary and Area’s Resource Development and Marketing and Communications departments in order to attract resources and spread the impact of our work throughout all sectors of community in Calgary. 

  • Fiscal Responsibility: Accountable for the stewardship of funds raised for the execution of Community Hubs strategies including reporting and strategic business planning. 

  • Mentorship and Supervision: Supervises and supports other staff working directly within the Community Hubs strategy. 

  • Other duties in support of the Community Hubs Initiative as required. 

What you will bring 
Experience: 

  • Graduate degree in a relevant discipline is an asset. 

  • At least 5 years’ relevant experience in a nonprofit, funding environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Experience in brand management for collective impact strategies. 

  • Experience in financial stewardship practices. 

Attributes: 

  • Excellent strategic planning and project management skills. 

  • Excellent facilitation and negotiation skills. 

  • Knowledge of the Social Service Sector. 

  • Ability to transfer research and best practice models into ongoing work. 

  • Knowledge of local social issues and equity-based approaches to community development. 

  • Ability to conduct research and policy analysis. 

  • Human resource management skills. 

  • Proven stakeholder management skills. 

  • Alignment to United Way’s vision, mission, and values. 

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing and working within a team of professionals. 

  • Proven change management skills. 

  • Knowledge of best practices in social innovation. 

  • Presentation skills. 

  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Strategic Communication. 

Work Environment
