Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Senior Communications Specialist to help lead our communications efforts with a strong focus on storytelling, brand integrity, and stakeholder engagement. This role supports and guides the work of two Communications Coordinators and works closely with Wood’s Homes leadership, internal teams and fund development.
The ideal candidate is a skilled technical writer and facilitator who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings a strong sense of brand stewardship, and is passionate about empowering others to communicate effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide guidance and mentorship to two Communications Coordinators, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and shared success.
- Collaborate closely with the fund development team to align messaging across donor campaigns, and fundraising events.
- Partner with program leaders to understand their goals and co-create communication strategies that elevate their work.
Strategic Communications & Brand Stewardship
- Develop and implement communication plans that reflect the voice, values, and vision of Wood’s Homes.
- Ensure consistent and compelling brand messaging across all platforms and materials.
- Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to support internal and external communication needs.
Technical Writing & Content Development
- Write and edit a wide range of materials including reports, proposals, media releases, web content, and donor communications.
- Translate complex mental health concepts into accessible, engaging language for diverse audiences.
Project & Workflow Coordination
- Lead communications projects using Asana, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder input are well managed.
- Coordinate with designers, vendors, and media partners to execute campaigns and events.
Public Relations & External Engagement
- Support media relations, including drafting press releases, coordinating interviews, and preparing spokespeople.
- Contribute to government and stakeholder relations through briefing notes, advocacy materials, and strategic messaging.
Soft Skills & Organizational Culture
- Facilitate conversations that build consensus and shared understanding across teams.
- Empower others to communicate confidently by offering tools, coaching, and collaborative support.

Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in communications, including experience supporting or leading a team.
- Strong technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor content for various audiences.
- Experience working with fundraising or donor engagement teams is a strong asset.
- Proficiency in Asana or similar project management tools.
- Knowledge of media relations, public relations, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative, facilitative approach.
