Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Program development and implementation:
Working closely with Indigenous Elders, partner organizations, Land of Dreams staff, and participants, develop and deliver a diverse range of Indigenous and land-based cultural exchanges and workshops to Indigenous and newcomer communities
- Communication:
Work remotely and on-site with partners and participants to build cross-cultural connections using strong written and oral communication skills
- Collaboration:
Work closely with the Indigenous Engagement Coordinator, other staff, participants, and partners to define clear program goals that align with Land of Dreams' guiding pillars and establish a collaborative medicine garden.
- Volunteer and Event Coordination:
Support a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants, participate in and facilitate portions of community volunteer days, support the logistical elements of season opening and closing events, including Land Blessing, Tipi raising, and Harvest Celebration
- Reporting:
Attend weekly staff and community meetings and share updates with teams through narrative reports. Share ideas, recommendations and action plans for meaningful program delivery.
Outcomes:
- Strong Relationships:
Support ongoing relationship building with Indigenous organizational partners and participants through land-based and community programming.
- Shared programming:
Close working relationships with established and new program partners. This includes hands-on, shared creation of a medicinal garden.
- Knowledge exchange and culture sharing:
Increase cross-cultural connections and newcomer understanding of Blackfoot and various Indigenous ways of knowing, and shared cultural frameworks.
- Framework Recommendations:
Building from insights from throughout the season, submit an end-of-season report that includes recommendations for continued and meaningful program delivery and partnerships.
Qualifications:
- Lived Experience as an Indigenous person or other understanding of Blackfoot or other Indigenous culture.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Experience in facilitation, teaching, community engagement, volunteer coordination, or related fields is an asset.
- Passion for sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and community development.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to challenges.
- French and English bilingualism is an asset
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada

CCIS – Resettlement and Integration Services (RIS) Division
CCIS Resettlement & Integration Services (RIS) division provides support services that enable Government Assisted Refugees (GARs) to transition to a new life in Calgary. RIS also offers several programs specific to refugee children and youth. RIS programs are designed to: assist in developing the independence of our clients, build capacity within the family structure and enhance our clients’ economic success. Our team of multicultural Counsellors provides settlement assistance in over 90 languages.
