FearIsNotLove (the new brand evolution and operator of Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter) works to inspire and build a dignity driven movement, cultivating communities that are free from domestic violence and abuse. We serve all people to live free from fear, neglect, violence, and abuse through a comprehensive range of innovative programs and services; from prevention and education, to counselling and emergency supports.
The agency plays an important role in the daily lives of individuals and families living with fear in their close relationships. This position will provide support, guidance and direction to front line staff across the client services programs on call basis to ensure the safety and stability of all FearIsNotLove clients and the smooth operations of the shelter facility.
HOURS OF WORK and ON-CALL EXPECTATIONS
This position requires a combination of active availability and on-call coverage to support operational needs.
Weekdays (Monday to Friday)
- Active Availability: 4:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
- On-Call Availability: 11:30 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. (the following morning)
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)
- Additional hours may be available based on operational requirements.
- Active Availability: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- On-Call Availability: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. (the following morning)
The successful candidate must be available to respond to on-call requests during designated on-call periods and be able to attend to urgent matters as required. Flexibility to work additional hours, including weekends and statutory holidays, may be required to meet operational needs.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Provide direction, consultation and guidance to 24/7 team that includes Shelter, Helpline, Imminent Risk and Children’s Activity Centre programs
- Supervises after-hours employees – including responding to requests for staff support, scheduling in accordance with Collective Agreement and completing documentation of consultation provided.
- Inform the shelter staff and team lead/ managers of critical incidents and any other significant events that occurred during the on-call shift.
- Triage facility related requests and decide whether the request needs to be relayed to the Facilities and Logistics Lead immediately or if it can wait until the following business day.
- Ensures all calls are properly documented and that established processes and standards for noteworthy events and critical incidents are adhered to.
- Prepares regular reports when requested.
- Responds to after-hours crisis calls from our residential and Helpline programs, providing direction, guidance and support to program staff.
- Attend required meetings and may be required to complete phone check-ins with staff members after hours.
- Ensure Compliance with Accreditation Standards; Maintain current police and IRC checks, professional registration (if applicable), and required accreditation-related training.
- Other duties as assigned to support FearIsNotLove’s programs.
WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR MISSION:
- B.S.W. or B.A. in Social Sciences preferred, Diploma considered
- Minimum of four (4) years’ previous experience in a supervisory role.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ previous experience in any of the following areas is required: domestic violence, Children’s Services, homelessness, or addictions/mental health issues.
- A minimum of two (2) years’ previous experience in a residential setting is preferred.
- Understanding of the Response Based Approach and previous experience working within Scott Miller’s Feedback Informed Treatment is an asset.
- Discretion, tact and ability to maintain confidential information.
- Able to be flexible and to respond to everyday pressures that occur in a high profile, responsive agency.
- Self-motivated with strong self-management ability is essential.
- Team work philosophy of collaboration and cooperation
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English. A second language would be an asset.
- Demonstrated effective and engaging interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with strengths in prioritization and efficiencies.
- Multi-task and adapt to various situations.
- Keen attention to detail and strong work ethic.
- Strong leadership abilities, to promote excellent client service delivery and a positive work culture.
- Ability to think quickly and provide expert guidance in complex, critical, or irregular events.
IMPORTANT DETAILS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Ongoing training and development is a required condition of this position.
- A criminal records search and an intervention record check are conditions of employment.
- If eligible for registration with a professional body, registration must be current.
- In accordance with Canadian immigration requirements, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
COMPENSATION (FLAT-RATE PER SHIFT):
- $105.00 per weekday shift
- $150.00 per weekend shift
- $160.00 per statutory holiday shift
- $230.00 per statutory holiday weekend shift
